How Home Tuition Prevents Your Child From Falling Behind In School

by Elen Moja

If you are a parent, the term home tuition may not be new to you. Even though some might dismiss this as an excuse for tutors to make extra money, home coaching goes a long way in ensuring your child never falls behind in his or her school.

If your child is falling behind in school, you will most likely be the last person to know. The child might be too ashamed or embarrassed to talk about his or her struggles with studies.

Nevertheless, if you observe several signs, your child will not need to ask for help because you will tell that there is a problem and take proper measures.

Signs your child is falling behind

Increased neediness

If your child is normally independent and likes to do things on his or her own, you will know there is a problem in school if he or she suddenly starts to become overly needy and dependent on you.

Avoiding the topic of school

According to child psychologists, if something is going on at school, the child will run around, fidget or do anything just to avoid any conversation about school.

Depressed or distant behavior

Yes, even children can become depressed. If you observe that the energy level of your child has gone down particularly during school time, this could be a sign of trouble.

Getting heated over nothing

If your child suddenly becomes aggressive and gets heated over small things especially during school time, then something is wrong.

How home tuition helps

Staying on top of schoolwork

The first thing a home tutor will do is to ensure that your child does all his or her school assignments. The tutor will also provide assistance where the child does not understand during these assignments.

Preventing a lax attitude during the holidays

It is true that long holidays provide a needed break for children to relax their mind but if they are not careful, they could become lax in their studies. A home tutor helps keep the child active in studies ensuring they never fall behind.

Testing and improving cognitive skills

According to top experts in child education, one of the underlying reasons that cause learning struggles for children is poor cognitive skills. They are mental tools that make up the child's IQ, including things like attention, memory, reasoning and logic. A good home tutor will be able to detect the absence of these skills and nature them to improve the child's performance.

Online Learning: The Latest Pedagogy

English: Some APEX youth getting homework help

If you are an educator, a tutor, a business trainer, or even a qualified expert in your field - regardless of what it might be, doing work as an online tutor is an opportunity that just might be worth seriously exploring.

In both school and business environments, there has been an incredible growth explosion in online education learning of all forms.

And of course, worldwide access to tutoring has broken down many of the geographical boundaries of the past.

With globalization has come the need for cross-cultural training, and with that the internet has provided a very useful opportunity for removing many of the previous physical limitations of education.

Tutoring can cover anything from covering the basics such as mathematics, English, foreign languages, and sciences all the way to very specific niche subjects like statistical interpretations of finance in today's global market.

Who is a good candidate to work as an online tutor? You could be an elementary school teacher, a college professor, or a doctor; many educators in traditional teaching positions also teach and tutor online, especially in the summer since many do not teach summer sessions in their usual positions.

But bear in mind, you needn't be a formal educator to make an excellent online tutor. In fact, sometimes having current practical experience is not only accepted, but also desirable.

Maybe you're a semi-retired fire code official or an auto mechanic, an engineer, or perhaps you are an expert in sewing, creative writing, or even astrology.

There is education, training and tutoring being done online for practically every subject and at every level of competency from beginner, to expert, to specialists, and everything in between.

With online tutoring, one of the major advantages is that you don't have to be in class, or even online, at a specific time. Most classes aren't administered live.

As an instructor or tutor, depending on the course structure, your role is to simply to keep an eye on progress, provide pertinent feedback, administer assignments and grade them.

Some of the more advanced courses might require you to hold webinars occasionally, which would normally just require you to log onto their system and deliver a class via a webcam, but that option is more prevalent when doing online business training as opposed to general education or tutoring.

Of course one of the most attractive perks of online learning resources and tutoring jobs is that they are usually done from the comfort and convenience of your own home, making it easy to align your need for an income with the hours you have available to do the work.

To get started, start applying to all of the companies you are qualified for, and be sure to follow their instructions to the letter.

They get hundreds of inquiries and, just like when applying in person, sloppy applications are likely to be ignored, put at the bottom of the 'pile', or simply deleted.

In order to build up your skills and get some practical experience, it can also help to provide free online tutoring as a volunteer before looking for a job. There are agencies, such as 'Homework', that can match you up with students who are in need of a tutor.

Getting some experience under your belt will not only help you to hone your skills, but also help you to assess whether or not you indeed enjoy the work, and want to pursue it further.

It can also help you define your skill set and help you to develop a niche. This is useful if subject specialization is the direction you see your career going in.

Online learning support may be just the money making opportunity you need, while still providing challenges and career fulfillment. Explore the possibilities today!

Let Your Child Excel With Online Tutorial Portals

English: Online Learning
Online Learning (Wikipedia)
by Kylie Taylor

If your child is having a difficult time at school, you may be concerned about their learning, their performance, even whether or not they'll overtake or be detained.

The first thing to do is assess the situation, and the earlier you do this, the better.

The effects of being behind in school work is cumulative, and only will get worse with time if the student is not able to keep up with the class.

Before you lose too much sleep over it, there are a few simple things you can carry out to help bring your child's grades up - and one very useful tool available to parents today includes education online tutoring.

In this article, we'll explore whether or not online tutoring is a good choice for you and your child and what the potential benefits are.

The one element that immediately gets put in the "pros" column is the fact that it can be done at the convenience of the student.

Among kids so involved these days playing games, clubs, other extracurricular activities, and of course homework, fitting in a genuine teacher can be very challenging.

Grades reflecting a complete understanding of the material are the most important thing in education, but it is the other activities that help to sculpt a well-rounded individual.

Just because a student may be behind it doesn't necessarily mean it is for lack of trying. That is why it's a good idea to keep them involved in their extracurricular activities even if the grades could be better.

Treating participation in activities as 'rewards' may be sending the wrong message. Ideally one will want to learn for it's own sake not to assure permission to be on the football team or cheering squad, as this might devalue the importance of learning.

Each individual is different; sometimes a talk with the teacher will bring things into focus quickly and help you figure out how to proceed.

So with time being an important factor, it's a perk of online tutoring that there are essentially no schedules to work around. The tutoring can be accessed when it's convenient for you.

Do bear in mind that education online learning situation typically does require at least some parental communication.

At the same time your student can get the profit of help from live online learning on his or her own, they will learn even more efficiently when a parent's support is accessible to assist them realize certain subjects and concepts.

From a psychological perspective, the support of at least one parent is highly beneficial.

One of the best elements of in person, one-to-one tutoring is the immediate feedback your kid receives while they do stuff properly or imperfectly. Many parents imagine this communication isn't accessible with online tutoring services, but it is, although in a diverse form.

It doesn't matter whether your child is receiving help from an actual teacher online or an electronic tutoring service, either way they can still receive instantaneous response on answers, troubles and subjects.

This assists your kid correct mistakes instantaneously, so as to they can comprehend the topic more with no trouble and more rapidly.

When mistakes are left uncorrected, a snowball effect happens making things increasingly difficult for a child. That's why online tutoring can help, even if used in tandem with a face-to-face tutor.

There are also cases in which a child may just need a little extra help with a little amount, even if they don't require sufficient help to guarantee the assurance and expense you will require to place out for a visiting trainer.

In cases like these, online tutoring services can supply the additional boost required with no excess expenditure of hiring a tutor. Students can skirmish up on complicated subjects or areas in a little quantity of time every day.

In addition, online tutoring can be used to get in some extra studying for a predominantly complex test that's coming up or for a subject that is creating them difficulty.

Can your child get advantage from online tutoring services? When approached realistically and with forethought, the answer is a resounding yes.

With a bit of parental administration and guidance, online tutoring services may be a deciding factor determining whether the student passes or fails. And it can, at very least, make learning easier and more pleasant for your child.

Do Not Just Contemplate Teaching Online

Teaching via Skype
Teaching via Skype (Photo credit: shareski)
by Michael Greene

The current state of post-secondary teaching employment on traditional campuses is unreservedly poor as the percentage of adjunct college and university faculty members working in physical college and university classrooms increases at an exponential rate.

This should come as no surprise to any college instructor attempting to stitch together a living wage by providing instruction on two or three campuses and outright failing as a result of not being able to earn enough money to support a reasonable lifestyle that includes the time and space to engage in scholarly research activities.

More to the point, the emergence of more online classes each semester provides an object lesson in the thinking and actions of administrators scrambling to effectively serve college and university students with the rapidly decreasing budgetary funds available for that purpose.

Since there seems to be no end to the explicit transition to distance education over continuing to maintain traditional classrooms, it is past time for academics to simply contemplate teaching online as a smart career choice as opposed to learning how to use the online college degree programs to generate an academic income worthy of their educations and intellects.

While many educators with earned graduate degrees have earnestly considered teaching online there are not all that many who have taken the leap and learned that it is possible to generate a full time living from a personal computer accessing online bachelor degree programs and online master degree programs.

Some non-academics would be stunned by the knowledge that in the face of mass layoffs in public education at every level a teacher with a Ph.D. or master's degree and decades of classroom experience would simply not be motivated to actively pursue online teaching a secondary or primary career opportunity, but those same non-academics are understandably unaware of the difficulty of transitioning from a public employee situation where all aspects of the teaching profession are managed by administrators to that of an academic entrepreneur responsible individually for the generation and management of income from the delivery of post-secondary instruction.

Of course, on a practical level this hesitancy on the part of languishing teachers is completely understandable in light of the sheer newness of distance learning and how it is literally changing the academic employment landscape.

To be fair, public school teachers, including traditional adjunct college faculty members, have not really been given the necessary tools during their intellectual voyage through graduate school to be successful as a self-employed academic.

This lack of essential understanding that creates the intellectual tools required to make the needed career adjustments prevents educators from taking even the first step to transition out of an employment arrangement that is no longer economically viable. In order to correct this problem the teacher needs to learn as much as possible each day about the technical navigation of academic websites and the online degree programs located inside them.

At the same time, it is of paramount importance to realize at a basic level that the first step to successfully building a complete online teaching portfolio is an acceptance that online teaching employment is the new academic brass ring.

Distance education technology is all the rage with academic administrators and new and returning college and university students for the simple reason that it is extremely inexpensive to deliver and maintain, which is in direct opposition to the high costs of maintaining physical college classrooms and university campuses, and is much easier and less costly for students enrolled in online college courses to access online college degree programs on the Internet than it is to use a motor vehicle to drive to a traditional campus on the edge of town in order to sit for long periods listening to a lecture and then having to drive back home.

The same convenience and cost-efficiency is available to the prospective online adjunct instructor that makes the serious effort to learn as much as possible about the availability of online teaching employment. After all, the market for an academic entrepreneur, an intellectual with the appropriate academic credentials and technical skills, is growing larger each passing day.

The administrators who are so eagerly deploying online degree programs leading to an online bachelor of nursing degree, an elementary education degree online or an online criminal justice degree, which they have no intention of teaching themselves, are desirous of large pools of academic labor than can be depended on to take control of multiple online college courses at the moment an e-mail is sent offering an invitation to teach online.

The college instructor that is ready to start teaching from a personal computer can develop a reputation for being able to manage the offered online courses and eventually experience more offers from administrators of online degree programs than traditional academic programs.

These offers will develop into individual income streams that collectively represent more money than can possible be earned by teaching in a physical classroom on campuses that can only be arrived at by traveling geographical distances.

The combination of growing student populations at the post-secondary level of the academy and the genuine need academic administrators have for online adjunct instructors that can immediately enter an online class and start teaching is the sweet spot, so to speak, for any educator wanting to acquire the mobility and financial prosperity associated with teaching online for multiple online degree programs.

While it is true that graduate school will not inform a teacher how to react to massive layoffs of public education employees, it is entirely possible for the alert intellectual to master the use of a personal computer and the associated navigation of the Internet in order to locate plenty of online teaching employment that will serve as an economic platform for increased prosperity.

Michael Greene is a full time online teacher. Greene has learned that the academic wanting to continue earning a living from teaching should recognize the growing popularity of distance education programs at the post-secondary level of the academy. His posts about online teaching as a career can be read here. The best advice about finding a variety of online teaching jobs is located right here and can be accessed with a simple click.

Accent Reduction Classes/Communication Skills Training Using Skype

by Cheryl Posey

In recent years, distance learning via the Internet has become almost a way of life, both in our professional and personal lives.

We communicate with people from all over world using either telephone conferencing or video conferencing.

Chatting with friends and family members, conducting business meetings, earning a degree, meeting someone new from an online dating service, and providing instruction in almost any field available are just a few of the benefits of using the technology that the internet provides.

Why is choosing Skype's video conferencing on the internet to improve your communication skills? What are the benefits?

In this article, we will be taking a look at the reasons video conferencing classes are becoming so popular with people from all walks of life.

1. Skype is free!

The videoconferencing software, Skype, is free to download on any computer: whether it be a PC or Mac. In today's world, we are all looking for the most cost effective way to interact with others, and it doesn't get any better than free!

2. Skype provides three methods of communication to meet everyone's needs

Once you install Skype on your computer, you can communicate with people on your contact list using a variety of methods: audio only, video conferencing, and text chat. Videoconferencing is most like face-to-face, because you have the luxury of seeing and hearing the person you're speaking with.

Most of the people I work with prefer the video conferencing feature over in-person classes. There are a few individuals who prefer audio conferencing over videoconferencing, as video conferencing is more threatening than audio alone. Skype has something for everyone!

3. You have the option of private or group classes with Skype

Skype provides you with the option of having a private class where you would work directly with me alone, or a small group class with up to four people.

While Skype provides both private and small group options, almost all of the people I work with prefer private classes. The main reason for preferring a private class is that most people do not want to be corrected in front of others, as it makes them feel self-conscious and embarrassed. They are much more comfortable working directly with an instructor.

4. Skype's video conferencing is high quality

Because Skype provides good quality videoconferencing, there is usually no delay between the movements and speech. Occasionally, if a person does not have a fast enough Internet connection, the videoconferencing feature of Skype may not be an option.

In this case they may need to change to the audio only feature on Skype or use the telephone. From my experience in working with hundreds of people, there is no difference between the improvement rates for individuals using video conferencing versus audio.

5. Working on the Internet allows me to work with people from all over the world

Skype uses the Internet for video and audio conferencing, making it accessible for all individuals, regardless of their location. This is a huge advantage! The only the only time that the Internet would not be suitable for classes is if the student does not have the Internet or has a very slow Internet connection.

The other consideration is the difference in time zones. Care must be taken to make sure that the time zones are correctly identified for each person, so that classes can be scheduled appropriately.

6. Having classes using videoconferencing is very convenient

Today's professionals work long hours and often travel frequently for work projects. Because there is no travel time associated with having classes via Skype, you can arrange to take classes whenever it is convenient for you: at work in a conference room, at home before or after work, or even at a hotel if you are on a business trip. These options make taking classes using Skype very convenient.

In summary, we are all busy with our day-to-day lives, and free time is precious. Because there is so little downtime, we are always looking for convenient ways to schedule activities and classes without them becoming a burden.

In today's society with our high technology, Skype video conferencing software provides the solution for us. For accent reduction classes and communication skills training, it is the perfect way for individuals from all walks of life and backgrounds to minimize extra time away from family or work.

It's nice to know that you are just a click away from taking a class to help you achieve your goals in spoken English!

Students are probably used to teachers and parents telling them to work out math problems by themselves because that's the only way you'll learn math.

Much as students would like to disagree, it's probably true.

However, the problem students have with math is not limited to solving problems; it usually starts earlier and has to do with how much students understand of what they are being taught.

Instruction for math should ideally be tailored to each student's capacity and aptitude for the subject.

Students who are really good at math can cover lessons faster and go beyond the syllabus and explore topics they are interested in. Students who maintain average grades need plenty of practice and someone to explain things in a way they understand.

While following a customized approach for teaching math will turn out better informed students, it's not really possible to apply it in most classrooms across the country, due to a shortage of good teachers, time constraints and deadlines.

The SAT Math Exam: Prepare Yourself With Private Tutoring You Can Rewind!

video chatting with the Cheeses
Video chatting (Photo: Tricia Wang 王圣捷)
by Duncan Roberts

Are you facing the SAT math exam soon? Feeling nervous about it? Maybe it's been awhile since you took a math course - or maybe, like me, you just aren't very good at math!

So what should you do? Simple answer - don't face the SAT math test alone, make a celluloid friend instead!

Enter the SAT Math Tutor

What you need is a SAT math tutor. Someone who goes at your speed, covering the parts you need to cover when you need to cover them! Ah - but tutoring is very expensive is cripplingly expensive I hear you say (heck, if you're afraid of math, you'll probably dread the idea of a math tutor anyway).

Which really isn't very helpful for you, now is it! After all, you need to feel helped by your tutor, not threatened.

Even if you can afford a tutor and aren't afraid of facing one, it's an undeniable fact that what you need is tutoring that is custom-designed for your needs, tutoring that will take you from where you are now to the place you need to be in to literally ace the test and get the score you need.

The $1,000,000 question - where are you going to find a SAT math tutor that can provide you with custom tutoring, who isn't scary and who goes at your exact pace? (okay, 3 x $1,000,000 questions there!).

You know that you are going to need lots of repetition and lots of practice. If you are anything like I was, your tutor will need the patience of Job! You already have anxiety over the test; you don't want anxiety over the learning experience, too.

You want to feel comfortable about going over and over the same problem-solving process until it is second nature - until you know you can access it quickly and accurately when needed for the test.

Another problem in life that we'll have to face to get the best out of our tutor is actually Life!: i.e. you do have one! You have a job, school, maybe a family, probably responsibilities of some nature, large or small. Your SAT math practice will have to be crammed into the little bit of space you have left available for it.

Even if you could find and afford a SAT math tutor in your local area, are they really going to be able to fit themselves into the random corners of your life? Maybe you're one of those people who function best in the early morning? Will you be able to find a SAT math tutor who is willing to show up at your door at 5:00 a.m.?

Probably not!

Maybe you're a night person but your tutor thinks nighttime is for sleeping! In addition to all this you need a quiet, private place to study. No meetings at the coffee shop or even in your living room, where your family is enjoying their favorite television programs.

The logistics of the problem are enough to make you give up before you start! But the solution is actually very easy and incredibly effective.

The Video SAT Math Tutor

The answer is so much simpler than you can imagine: video. With your SAT math tutor on video, you can get everything you need:-

  • Repetition - as much as you need!
  • Tutoring at any time of day. You can study when your brain is fresh and when it is convenient for you, not someone else.
  • You can study anywhere you wish, because the videos can be downloaded onto your computer and easily carried around.

So if you need help with the SAT math test - don't panic! Just go to and check out the amazing series of videos and subjects the SAT math video tutor offers at http://www.satmathx.com/tutor/

Finding A Tutor For Your Child

Tutoring

by Ralph Gomez

As a concerned parent, I'm sure that you're interested in seeing your child gets the best education that is possible.

This can be difficult, however, especially when your child is attending public schools and the classes tend to be so full that they may not get the personalized attention that is necessary.

There may also be other circumstances which would limit your child's ability to get the education that they need to your satisfaction.

In any of those cases, one option that you have open to you is to hire one of the professional tutors that are available to give your child the assistance that is needed.

What can these tutors offer to your child and how can you choose one that is going to be right for their needs?

One of the reasons why you may want to consider hiring a tutor for your child is if they are struggling to keep up with the curriculum of the class. Unfortunately, that curriculum is set by higher powers and the teacher really has limited ability to adjust what is being taught in the classroom or the speed with which it is being taught.

If your child is having difficulty keeping up, hiring a tutor can assist them in getting the additional help that they need to get caught up and then to keep up. It can allow them to fully grasp what is being taught in the classroom and you will find that they are not only keeping up with their classmates, they may actually be passing them in the curriculum.

You may also have a specific need for hiring a tutor for your child. For example, if your child is facing the SAT test, prep tutors may be able to help them to get a higher score. Keep in mind, these types of tests are something that follow your child throughout their educational career and to a certain extent, throughout their lifetime.

Make sure that you give them the best opportunity that is possible to succeed with the test that is being given and they will be much more likely to succeed further in life.

There are various options that are open to you as to how you will hire a tutor and where the tutoring will take place. In some cases, you can hire a tutor in your local area that will actually sit with your child and help them through the process, whatever that process may happen to be.

In other cases, an online tutor can be hired to help your child with homework or perhaps to give them a little bit of guidance through their educational career. That choice is really up to you so give it the thought that is necessary to make a wise decision for everyone involved.

Your child has one opportunity to take advantage of the education that is available to them. Don't allow them to fall behind because of various problems that can occur during the educational process. By hiring a tutor, you help to give them the leg up that is necessary to succeed in life.

The author of this article is a college career counselor, helping students find the best professional tutors and SAT test prep tutors. While away from work, he enjoys donating his time to help the less fortunate receive an education and spending time with his family.

Coursera: Top Universities Free Online

Statistics One | Coursera
Statistics One | Coursera (Photo credit: AJC1)
by Janel N Spencer

Last week, online education startup Coursera added twelve new university partners and raised an additional $6 million, bringing their venture funding to over $22 million.

Coursera is a free online education platform offering interactive college courses. The intention of the one-year-old company is to bring classes from top-tier universities to the public for free. Last Tuesday their dream came true, or started to.

On this day a dozen major universities-CalTech, Duke, University of Virginia, Georgia Tech, University of Washington, Rice, Johns Hopkins, University of California San Francisco, University of Illinois Urbana-Champagne, University of Toronto, University of Edinburgh, and Switzerland's Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne-announced their partnership with Coursera.

Coursera was already working with Stanford, Princeton, the University of Pennsylvania, and the University of Michigan.

Coursera is one of several initiatives emerging. The joint Harvard-MIT project edX and Udacity are among the other high-profile free online university startups.

"I like to compare it to film," explained Sebastian Thrun to Education News. Thurn is a Stanford professor and the founder of Udacity. "Before film there was theater-small casting companies reaching 300 people at a time. Then celluloid was invented, and you could record something and replicate it. A good movie wouldn't reach 300 but 3,000, and soon 300,000 and soon three million. That changed the economics."

While Udacity is offering only 11 classes thus far, Coursera's partner universities will be offering over 100 courses this fall. Four of the classes began on Monday: Listening to World Music, Fantasy and Science Fiction, Internet History and Intro to Finance.

The courses, called MOOCs, or massive open online courses, can reach many more people than a traditional class; they are capable of delivering lessons to more than 100,000 students at a time, according to The Atlantic.

That number will only expand as they begin to translate their courses and offer classes in different languages, which they have started to do. EPF Lausanne has begun offering courses in French. Their "Introduction a la Programmation Objet", or Introduction to Object Programming, will be offered this fall.

Revenue possibilities for Coursera could involve career placement services or charging students for certificates from partner universities. The certificates, which might be pdf documents or badges shareable on social networks like LinkedIn, Facebook, and Google+, would be branded with the university's name and sold to the students.

For now, only one university has said it will offer credit for the classes - the University of Washington. For the others, the certificate would only signify completion of the course.

Other sources of income Coursera is considering include having students pay to take identity-verified tests at specified testing locations, an option that would enhance the value of the certificate for the class by confirming that the student learned the information themselves and did not cheat.

Coursera is also discussing offering services such as paid tutors, recruiting ad-sponsorship, and potentially charging tuition fees for offering online courses on university campuses. This last option is already occurring as apart of their partnership with the University of Washington, according to the Chronicle.

Coursera is agreeing to pay the universities 6 to 15 percent of their revenues, while they will retain 20 percent of the gross profits. The site will be an opportunity for the universities to market themselves to the community, and to learn about and improve in their own experiment of providing online education without having to develop the technology infrastructure themselves.

Also important: the universities that design courses for Coursera will retain the rights to their work.

For now, though, university financial contribution to the venture is still a risk. However, it is also potentially an important investment, for them and for the future of education itself. The Atlantic deems the Coursera initiative "the single most important experiment in higher education."

"Lectures came about several hundred years ago when there was only one copy of the book, and the only person who had it was the professor," Coursera co-founder Daphne Koller said to The Atlantic. "The only way to convey the content was for the professor to stand at the front of the room and read the book. One would hope that we had better capabilities these days."

However, as to whether Coursera will ever become competition for the traditional universities that provide its courses, other co-founder Andrew Ng believes it won't.

The real value of attending elite schools such as Caltech, he told The Atlantic, is the time spent working directly with the professors and other students. Ng believes that Coursera gives schools the potential to improve that interaction by putting their lectures online.

Dr. Edward Tenner, a historian of technology and culture, proposes that easy access to quality, college-level online education will increase competition for spaces at the traditional top-tier colleges. Others, meanwhile, question what might happen to traditional non-Ivy league schools.

According to Harvard Business School professor and disruptive innovation expert Clayton Christensen, half of North American higher education will move online in the next ten years, with K-12 following by 2019.

While the world of online education is still developing, initiatives like Coursera are major steps towards a quality and free public college education, provided for all. 360 Education Solutions is excited for this innovative step in online education, and hopes to bring you more information soon.

360 Education Solutions is your advocate in the search for quality online teaching degree programs. How Does Online Tutoring Work?

by Matthew Karpinski

While the education system's effectiveness is up for debate, there is no denying the most beneficial way to educate someone is in a one-on-one setting.

Up until now, it was believed you had to be face to face in order to receive a quality tutoring session; the times have certainly changed.

Children today are what we call digital natives. In their eyes, life could not exist without the internet and all of our advanced technologies. Facebook, Twitter, Skype, video games, etc. have created a culture in which young people magnetize to technology.

Schools and parents all over the country are using the internet to boost academic success by utilizing online tutoring services in an attempt to close or even create achievement gaps.

How exactly does this all work? It might not be as complicated as you would think and your tech savvy son or daughter would catch on to the concept almost instantly. It all starts with finding a good online tutor. Once you have found a tutor and set up meeting times, you will be given access to the virtual classroom via a link that is emailed to you. You would then click the link at the appropriate time and enter the virtual classroom for the tutoring session.

The virtual classroom has a fantastic set up. The tutor can use a video and audio feed to communicate with the student during the session. Participants also have the ability to chat with each other live in a chat box. Each virtual classroom has a whiteboard available in which both the tutor and the student have the ability to manipulate.

Tutors can also upload PowerPoint presentations, Microsoft Word documents and YouTube videos directly in the classroom and use these resources to provide high quality instruction. Tutoring in the virtual classroom opens up several instructional avenues that simply don't exist in the traditional tutoring setting.

The days of traveling to the library to meet with a tutor who can only do worksheets are long gone. No more cleaning the house or using extra gas to meet at an inconvenient location. All of the tutoring takes place from the comfort of your own home. Kids love it too! They don't feel intimidated or incompetent when they meet with the tutor because they are in a comfortable setting; online via the computer.

Tutoring online, however, is a rather new practice. Finding experienced tutors in the online setting can be somewhat difficult. The key is to look for a tutoring business or individual tutor who has at least 2 years of experience educating in an online classroom.

A competent online tutor has training, experience and skill in the online education setting. Before committing to any services, be sure to ask the tutor questions regarding how it all works. The tutor should be well versed and educated when describing the process.

If you are interested in an experienced, high quality tutoring service, click the link http://www.optimistic-outlook.com/online-tutoring.html and contact Optimistic-Outlook for more information. Your first month is entirely free! The tutors at Optimistic-Outlook have extensive training in the online education setting.

Their tutors have more than 3 years of service exclusively in the virtual classroom and are dedicated to developing and continuing best practices in the field. You can also contact Optimistic-Outlook for consulting opportunities. The future of tutoring is now the present. Define your son or daughter's future with no barriers.

Maths Help Online - A Great Way to Learn Maths

Mathematics homework
Mathematics homework (Photo credit: Wikipedia)
by B. Jacob

Help with maths is a common requirement among high school and college students. Some parts of maths can be quite tough, and moreover not everyone has a high aptitude for maths.

Ideally, the concepts and principles could be explained at length with students practicing plenty of questions to understood each part properly. In reality, however, teachers are often rushed and do not have the time to deal with each student individually.

This is why individual tutoring is in high demand as both parents and students seek instructors who can explain the subject well, and develop the student's interest in it.

What most students really need is guided instruction. This helps them maintain regular study time and also ensures that they have someone to work with and clear their doubts. Parents who have a good knowledge of high school maths can help their kids out.

However, with both parents working and managing packed schedules, most households find it difficult to find a time that suits everyone, and stick to it.

Online maths help is a great option that fits the bill perfectly. It offers a lot of flexibility in scheduling sessions, in fact the most out of all the tutoring options.

Students choose the time to schedule sessions. This means that your tutoring is compatible with your daily activities. Students also have the option of scheduling sessions ahead of time, for a week or even a month. There are several online maths tutors for each subject so there is always someone to help you out.

Sessions are conducted via voice and chat. The online whiteboard is an interactive tool that allows both students and tutors to write, draw and solve maths problems. Students can ask tutors their doubts through chat.

For help with particular problems, students can upload the file and the tutor will have access to it. Online tutoring brings the classroom online and therefore, highly accessible and convenient for students and tutors. Studies have shown that there is no difference between online and traditional classroom instruction and is equally effective.

Online tutoring services are moderately priced and hence can be afforded by more students. Easy online access allows you to connect to your tutor from anywhere, school, home, the library. Tutors provide homework help on a daily basis and provide plenty of practice questions for students to work on.

There are online worksheets, maths games and puzzles, and other activities that students can work on whenever they want. Prepare for your tests and exams using the exam prep feature to maximize your grades.

Online Tutoring - What Makes It Click?

Our Online Marking Centre at work
Online Marking Centre www.primeeducation.com.au
by B. Jacob

Tutoring has become very common over the past few years, with parents of students as young as the kindergarten level signing up for tutoring services.

Its sudden rise in popularity can be attributed to several factors. Increasing class room sizes and a shortage of qualified staff makes it difficult for instructors to give each student adequate attention.

This often leads to one group of students lagging behind the others. We also need to consider that students have different aptitudes and interest levels; so while some students find math exciting, others may find similar joy in literature or science or history.

That being said, while it's best to encourage students in their areas of interest, they also need to learn about various disciplines, to ensure that they have a well rounded understanding of the world and their environment.

Tutoring services meet the need for personalized instruction which takes into account the student's grasping power and level of comfort with the subject. Students who learn with private tutors understand the subject more clearly and in greater detail than they do in class.

When Should You Start Tutoring?

Parents and students usually wait for a bad report card and failing grades to appear, before they decide to take action to improve the student's performance in a particular subject. You an avoid going right to the edge by signing up for tutoring earlier.

When a students expresses a lot of difficulty in a subject and has trouble with homework almost everyday, it's a sign that they could probably use extra help in the subject. Math tutoring has more takers than any other subject, which is probably not surprising, considering the subject was never very popular among students anyway.

With the growing popularity of tutoring, finding a good tutor is easier than ever. Students have a host of tutoring option to choose from. Private tutors have been around for some time and provide excellent services. The tutors are well qualified, they can come to the student's home and they provide very thorough coaching.

The drawback here is the steep price, which places it beyond the reach of many. Tutoring centers are another option to consider. In many respects, it's like learning in a slightly smaller classroom. Tutoring centers do not always guarantee personal attention and the fixed schedules can be inconvenient.

Online tutoring is the latest addition to the group and has found favor with users and parents. Online tutoring is very convenient as students schedule lessons and timings themselves. Tutors are experienced and well qualified individuals from around the globe, which enables the tutoring companies to provide 24x7 help across time zones.

Compared to the other types of tutoring, online tutors are much more economical and most services have great discounts and offers for first timers.

Statistics is used everyday in a variety of scenarios and situations.

Most of the time they tend to go unnoticed but research shows that a person is exposed to around five statistics a day on average, like this one!

A working knowledge of statistics will help students and adults understand data they come across and interpret it correctly.

Students often find statistics a bit difficult to learn which may be due to the profusion of graphs, charts and equations that this subject involves. Once you get used to it, statistics becomes much easier to understand.

One of the best ways to learn statistics is to apply the concepts to everyday situations. Luckily, statistics is one subject for which students will find loads of scenarios in which to apply newly learned principles and concepts.

Studying statistics can be made simpler when students spend time on the subject after each class. Going through the lessons as soon as you've learned them will help you learn quicker as the material will be easier to recall.

Practice as much as you can so that you can work on different types of questions. Focus on areas that you have difficulty solving. For example, if you find graphs confusing and are unable to plot data on them, spend more time solving problems which involve graphing.

Statistics is a part of many courses in college, like economics, sociology, the sciences, and math. Make an effort to learn the subject as well as you can, not just to pass high school math, but to help you with further studies as well.

Statistics tutoring is an option you can consider if you find the subject really tough. Finding a good tutor and scheduling regular tutoring sessions will really help you get ahead in stats.

Regular tutoring ensures that you practice regularly. You will also be more likely to go through lessons on a daily basis. Most statistics tutors also provide homework help so that you can be sure your work is correct. While some tutors are expensive, you can also find reasonably priced tutoring services that provide great value for money.

Online tutoring offers a great deal of flexibility in timing since students can schedule sessions whenever they want and ahead of time as well. There are a number of tutors for each subject so you will always have a tutor available to solve your problem or answer your doubts.
