The competition for top business schools is ferocious out there. Some prestigious schools like Harvard, Stanford or Wharton say that they only accept about a tenth of all those who apply.

Here are a few tips that should help you make a good first impression when you enroll into a top business school:

Start the Enrollment Process A.S.A.P.

The sooner you start planning on taking the GMAT, writing the essays, sorting through your best recommendations, researching your top school choices and getting the applications, the better. All these things take time to complete, and you don't want to start too late, and end up in the rejected bunch. If you wait until the last minute, the stress will keep piling up and you'll soon lose your head over all the things that need doing.

Do the research

This should be the fun part. Instead of just picking a few schools from a list, take the time to do some research and find out which one would be best for you. You should also visit their campuses and if you can sit in at their classes, then you'll get a general idea of what school you'd like to join. When you'll be asked why you want to attend that particular school, you'll already have a suite of experiences which you can use to form the most convincing answer.

Get A High GMAT Score

When enrolling in a top business school, every little bit of outstanding performance helps. This is true for the GMAT scores as well. GMAT scores range from 200 to 800, the mean score settling in the 500 range. Usually, top business schools take on people with a score of 700 or higher, so do whatever it takes to get a high GMAT score.

Try to Be Yourself

People often hold an ideal image of themselves in their head. It's the thought of how they should be perceived by other people. While this might work in some cases, it's not a good idea to cling on to that idea when you enroll in a business school. If you know someone who went to business school, don't try to copy everything from them. Instead, try to poke your head out the crowd and be unique. Your past experiences, positive and negative will play a decisive role here. Trying to be someone you're not will guarantee you a spot in a top B-school.

Stay Motivated
It's really no secret that top business individuals have a way about keeping motivated. That's one thing a top B-school will keep an eye out for. Try to remember your past experiences, how you got up when life knocked you down and what you've learned from each individual experience. Everyone makes mistakes in their lives, but only a few people learn from them.
